STRIKING SMITHS ENFIELD BAKELITE MANTEL CLOCK

Details: This clock has been fully serviced and overhauled.

A great clock, in very good all round condition, the case being of Bakelite, which of course is collectable in its own right. The clock retains its original bezel and glass, which are very good; the original silvered face is also very good as are the original black hands.

Eight-day duration, strikes on the hour and once on the half hour on coiled gong.

Although Enfield was taken over by Smiths as early as 1933, clocks still manufactured in the old enfield factory continued to use the Enfield name from 1932 –1949. Enfield was considered to be a higher quality movement.

After 1950 clocks were marked Smiths-Enfield. Smiths-Enfield ceased producing clocks entirely in 1979. Clocks with only the Enfield name on them were made prior to 1949 also, bear in mind that there was little domestic clock production during the war years 1939-1945 (although they did produce materials for military use).
